Address: ul. Dworna 25 , 18-400 Łomża
Lomza Cathedral. St. Michael the Archangel once a parish church of St. Archangel Michael and Saint. John the Baptist. The building was built in the years 1504 - 1525. The founders of the temple and land donors were duchess Anna Mazowiecka and her sons: Janusz III and Stanisław. The nobility, burghers and priests were also the initiators of this work. The final stage of the construction of the facility was led by a canon of the Warsaw collegiate church and the Płock cathedral, priest from Łomża, priest Jan Wojsławski in 1619. The date of the consecration made by the bishop of Płock, according to the eighteenth sources, is 1526. The act of consecration of the sacred object was held after 1531. In the main nave, the cathedral has star and network vaults, while in the aisles, crystal, rare in Mazovia. Inside there are many Gothic and late valuable works of art. On the outer wall of the temple tower of the cathedral a stone resembling a mask is embedded, perhaps it was once a subject of pagan worship. These types of masks are also found in the walls of the church in Pralnica in Masuria and the collegiate church in Pułtusk. The Łomża cathedral is a source of inspiration for many artists. This is demonstrated by the painting dedicated to the Łomża temple and numerous products of popular culture. It was, inter alia, placed on a postage stamp from the series of Marian Shrines.
