The Branicki Palace is a historic palace in Bialystok, one of the best preserved magnate residences of the Saxon era in the lands of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the late Baroque style, referred to as "Versailles of Podlasie", "Versailles of the North", as well as "Polish Versailles". The hetman's legacy is continued by the Medical University of Bialystok, which has been the owner of the residence since 1950. The palace is the main seat of the University of Bialystok, which conducts systematic renovation and conservation work aimed at restoring the residence of the eighteenth-century splendor. Through numerous initiatives such as the Night of Museums, UMB Open Days, the Podlasie Festival of Science and Arts, European Heritage Days, as well as the organization of the Museum of the History of Medicine and Pharmacy, the palace fulfills scientific and didactic functions and is part of the city's cultural life. The Great Gate entering the palace and park area makes a huge impression and lets you assume that what lies behind it will delight as much as it itself. In shape, the gate resembles a triumphal arch. On its top is the golden Gryf, which is a symbol of the Branicki family. The gate is beautifully decorated, and in the evening you can admire it in a perfect light arrangement. The Great Gate can be admired from The palace. Hence, we recommend starting a walk around the park and palace complex. The Museum of the History of Medicine and Pharmacy is located in the right wing of the Branicki Palace and has been operating since 2003. The museum has exhibits related to pharmacy in Podlasie. The oldest manual in the Museum's collection is over 100 years old. The two-story division of the area around the palace into Upper and Lower gardens was created at the end of the 17th century and is still visible today. The upper part of the garden has the shape of a regular quadrangle and is in direct contact with the palace. It is a French garden characterized by numerous fountains and flower beds. The English part of the park looks slightly different - gazebos, pavilions, promenades, boulevards decorated with monuments, statues, ponds. The division of the park into an upper and lower garden with a developed water system and a set of stone sculptures has survived to this day. It is extremely pleasant to walk along the main avenue of the Branicki Palace garden salon, along which eight boxwood, sheared carpet floors, covered with white and red sand, have been arranged. The avenue is also decorated with restored stone sculptures set on pedestals. At present there are already 16 of them. Ten of them come from the 18th century. They are: Bacchus, Diana, Nymph from the procession of Diana and Flora, and 2 vases with dragons, 2 vases with mascarons and 2 vases with heads of fauns. The remaining 6 sculptures were reconstructed in 1954 and they are: Akteon, Apollo, Adonis and Venus and 2 vases with heads of fauns. This walking path ends with a flanked bridge.
